B) High Expectations -- If you are thinking you are going to get an affiliate program up and running and sit back and make your first million, you better run -- not walk! Frankly, while affiliate marketing is considered passive income, it's passive only in that you get income from other peoples traffic. But, you must set your expectations realistically!

C) Ignoring your Users -- Let's face it. All affiliate marketers depend on the people who visit their website. What does your website offer to the visitor? Is it nothing more than a hard sales pitch? If so, they'll leave in droves. Cater to your users!

D) Ignoring Trends -- Don't be short sighted! If it's summer time, don't expect people to be interested in winter clothing! Be aware of what is happening in the news, in the stock market, in politics! Make sure that you don't overlook any obvious opportunities to market your affiliated products! There are thousands of opportunities if you know where to find them!

There are some things you can do to help yourself succeed as an affiliate marketer. Remember, while you are free to consider affiliate marketing as passive income, it will take some nurturing from you to continue your success!

A) Provide Relevant Content -- This cannot be stressed enough! If you set up a website and you just throw a bunch of ads on it, there is no reason for someone to come back after the first time! Not only will your content be stale (resulting in lower search engine stats), but once someone has read through your site, there is not any valid reason for them to return. Keep your content fresh and more importantly keep it relevant.

B) Market yourself -- This is something that noone else is going to do for you (unless you hire someone!). Marketing your website, your blogs and even your hub pages are important to succeeding in your affiliate marketing goals. Use the thousands of tools that are at your disposal and make the most of them! Marketing starts the minute you sign up for your affiliate marketing account and it never ends.

C) Don't Push -- When someone visits your website they are visiting because they believe you have something to tell them that they may find helpful or useful. Don't make every single thing you say and do be a hard sell to get people to buy products or services just because you happen to be an affiliate marketer of that product or service! Remember, people come on line for a number of things and you need to focus on two of them. (1) to learn and (2) to buy. While your goal is to get them to buy, you also want to make sure you've provided something for them to learn!

D) Don't be impatient -- Whatever you do, don't grow impatient. Just because your affiliate program isn't working today doesn't mean that it's not going to take off in six months! Keep your eye on your goals and don't start jumping from product to product just because something doesn't appear to be working. While you should certainly monitor activity, don't spread yourself out over so many things that all of them become irrelevant!
